Bojangles Dance is a family owned dance school in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs that was established by Michelle Rogers in 2004. Fun, family and learning through exploration are central to our philosophy. Our dance classes are kept small to ensure that each child receives the care and attention they deserve. This also helps establish the connection between teacher and student that is imperative for children to feel valued.
We believe, above all, that dancing should be fun. Fun is at the heart of what it means to be a child – to be free, happy and full of energy. When children are having fun they are motivated, engage with the lesson and remember much more of the experience. When technique is taught through fun, it doesn’t feel like a lesson – everything becomes play. When children play they are not afraid of taking risks, exploring, making mistakes and trying again.
Dance classes provide children with a unique opportunity to combine learning, exercise and art. We encourage children to express themselves through dance, feel the music and allow their individual style and personality to shine through.
Younger children will learn dance technique with the aid of fairy dust, imaginary balloons and the occasional monster to be chased away. They will explore musical concepts and will experiment with characterisation – developing different characters to match the music. Over time, children will naturally integrate these skills into their dancing and performance.
Older children will learn the magic of how the body works – how different muscles control each and every movement that our bodies make. They will learn that, just like training a new puppy, it takes time and practice to teach these muscles to work the way you want them to and teaching your body with love and kindness is always the best approach. By integrating this knowledge into their dance technique, older children will learn to relax their muscles to improve flexibility and will develop strength and core control to keep the body safe and healthy.
If they have a leotard, great! If not, then wear a form fitting top and leggings/shorts. Make sure we cannot see their undies while they’re sitting on the floor or doing acrobatics.
All students will eventually need to purchase our uniform however we recommend that you wait about a month – just to make sure that your child is ready to commit to the full term!
Fees are paid by the term ($15/hr).
If your child takes 3 or more dance classes and just can’t get enough, you may want to consider our All You Can Dance! package. For $600/term your child can take as many classes as they like – including Showgroup. That’s a saving of up to $150 per child for juniors and $600 per child for seniors!
Solos/duos/trios are $30/half hr. This cost is divided amongst duo/trio members (i.e. $15 each for duos, $10 each for trios) and may be paid weekly.
* NB All You Can Dance! does not include solos/duos/trios

Of course! Our Jingles program gives little dancers the perfect introduction to ballet, jazz and tap.
Not a problem, we welcome beginners and give them as much care and attention as our more experienced students.
Some dancing schools allow parents to come in and watch the lesson but this has its pros and cons. Although, parents can be a comfort to new students when they are settling in, they can also be a distraction. We find that the class runs much more smoothly when parents wait outside. When parents are in the room children tend to “anchor” – running back and forth between the dance class and the parent. Please talk to your child before their dance class to prepare them for the separation and reassure them that you’ll be watching just outside the door.
We offer discounts (5% per child up to 15%) and flexible family payment plans for families with 2 or more students and flexible payment plans for students taking multiple classes.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if this may suit your needs.
